The ship is the namesake for the first class of destroyers to feature the AEGIS Weapons Systems. The 5th Fleet, which is based in Bahrain, covers the Red Sea, Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf. The Arleigh Burke returned from its last deployment in October 2009.
