Symbian Freak informs that the data, provided by the GFK Group’s marketing research, clearly indicates that Nokia is losing its leading position on the mobile market in Europe. The company is a traditional leader in the region, outselling all competitors, but it seems now that Samsung might have taken the leadership in some countries, threatening Nokia’s first place on the continent.

Last week, Samsung topped the list of the most popular mobile phones in Britain, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Russia. This comes as no surprise to analysts, as the Samsung F480 has been on top of the sales chart in Switzerland for the last 26 weeks. In the same time, five out of ten places in the top 10 sales list in France are also held by Samsung models.

According to the report, the South Korean company also holds about a 30% market share in Russia, Italy and the Netherlands.

Another GFK research helps us understand some of the reasons behind this unprecedented success. It indicates that the European customers are getting even more price-conscious than before, with price being a decisive factor for up to 60% of the purchases. So, while Nokia is still the number one mobile brand in the world sales-wise it’s interesting whether Samsung will manage to brake its domination.
