User Registration Bulk "SPAM User" cleanup. During a bogus/SPAM user cleanup adventure this morning (Delete the user, add the IP and the email address to the ban list if I've seen it before), it occured to me that it would be nice to be able to flag a new user registration as being a SPAM account...sorta like Banning, only substantially more severe. Ideally, this action would delete the account, update the banned IP list and add the email address to the banned address list all as a single action. I would see this as a new search page option that would allow you to clean out multiple accounts at once (instead of opening each user one at a time and wait for the blinkie-blinkie, back, search process). It would make short order of SPAM user cleanup if this was an option on the moderate new user page, but that might be going too far. I don't get a lot of these registrations any longer since applying the "Stop the registration bots" plug in... but it's still enough to make the tedious process time consuming. In the crazy idea category... it wonder what the complexities would be that this "Mark as SPAM User" activity shiped the data to a central database somewhere that maintained these SPAM addy and IP's... I'm not sure how usable that would be "downstream" as a lookup to a list that large across servers could have performance (and security) issues??? Dunno... just a crazy thought. |
