SSH figured out but have one question OK, in regards to my last thread, I never was able to get Putty to work for me and still don't undertand why. Oh well! Someone at my hosting company suggested SecureCRT. I downloaded, installed it and was able to SSH to my server just fine. Yahoo! Then following the directions from this thread http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252648, after logging in to the server I typed in: mysqldump --opt -u databaseuser -p databasename > /path/to/backupname.sql Of course I changed the dbusername and dbname to my info. The problem I am having is with the /path/to/backupname.sql I understand what path means but no matter what I enter there it won't let me in. I have changed it every way I can think of but can't get it to work and this is what I get... ______________________________ bash-3.00$ mysqldump --opt -Q -u mydbusername -p mydbname > /my_backups/04_08_09.sql bash: /my_backups/04_08_09.sql: No such file or directory bash-3.00$ ______________________________ I know it's a stupid newbie question but can someone please tell me how to enter the path the proper way? I set up a directory on my server and called it my_backups so is my path my_website_address/my_backups/some_name.sql or is the backupname supposed to be my current database name? I finally get ssh to work and stumped by this simple entry. :( Any help is appreciated. |
