The peaceful revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt were welcomed, as was the ejection of the Libyan despot Qaddafi. Bahrain, on Saudi Arabia's doorstep, was a matter for reforms and dialogue rather than revolution. The brunt of Obama's criticism fell upon Syria.
