Changing the date format in What's New in ver. 1.7
 

If anyone can help me it would be very much appreciated. I am using version 1

I am trying to remove the hour and minute display of the date in the What's New block list and no matter what I try I can't seem to make that happen. I've tried flushing the cache between edits, adding line breaks and paragraph tags to get spaces between posts in block.tpl (to make it look prettier and be more readable), editing WHATSNEW_DATE_FORMAT in config.php ... all to no avail.

What am I doing wrong, please?
