Suite VB 4.0.4 install Fatal error: Call to undefined function spl_autoload_register()
 

I'm trying to do an install of 4.0.4 on a REL4 VPS and I'm getting an error during step 5 of the install script:

I've tracked it back to the following problem with PHP, I think:

I have no idea how to troubleshoot *that* issue, though. Has anyone else seen a similar issue? Any help much appreciated!

I tried searching the forums for a match, but couldn't find anything.
