700-1000 online, what's the best server setup for me?
 

I run a VB site that the who's online page always shows 700-1000 online. any time it goes over 1200, the site ****s the bed. we've been running on 3 servers for awhile (web, db, & slave DB) but I've still not been happy w/ the performance. I always feel I must just have the wrong setup. I find it hard to believe I need 3 servers & for the life of me don't understand why we aren't running better.

I'm upgrading to VB4 right now & would have no problem w/ changing hosts. So i'm here wondering, what's the optimum setup for me? equipment? software? host? I'd appreciate any input.
