An externally defined block? (poor description?)
 

As I understand it, boxes can only be placed in the sidebar. Is there another entity that can be place in the main column? I would like to be able to create an HTML block that can be placed on several different pages, including the front page.

One use I see is creating a "Headline News" block that would appear both on the home page and on the news page.

Any suggestions?
