german characters split words

I recently installed vb 4 with the german language pack and each word containing characters like '?' or 'ü' split the word...

I need to know the solution for get it working, I seen on a forum I need to convert the database to UTF-8 but I am really confused about that..

Please I need some advice how to solve the problem.
