I was evaluating some anti-malware applications and was playing with Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware version with Real-time protection and found that one thing it does is act like a firewall that blocks traffic from malicious IP’s. So I started going through the list of IP’s that it was blocking from and noticed that these same IP’s are on the lists many of the API’s look to for evaluating the IP when registering on the forum.

So that got me started about thinking of installing it on the server and seeing if it blocks traffic from spam bots even hitting the server. Then it got me thinking about this and I feel the problem is being dealt with wrong. My feeling is if your coming from a known bad IP list that you shouldn’t even get to see my site. In fact I would rather a static page be displayed showing why you have been blocked and what you can do about it if it’s been a mistake.

Why doesn’t a product exist like that? Is there one and I don’t know about it?

Our site is hammered with spammers. We are having the VB people upgrade our site to the new 4.0 version and we hope that helps remove the spam. But I was wondering if anyone else had some advice or creative ideas on killing off the spammers.
