Forum Possible to Change Structure of Forum Header/Navbar?
 

Is it possible to change the structure of the forum header/navbar, and do some elimination of items?

I have a website which contains one single forum as a subdirectory. In other words, the forum is just one part of a larger site. The larger site has its own header - which appears on all pages, including the current forum (still vB 3.8.4 ... but I'm planning to migrate to vB 4.0).

What I believe I would like to do is modify the vB4 header/navbar so that it looks like the following:

BEFORE user login:
http://www.midlifebachelor.com/test/...fore_login.jpg

AFTER user login:
http://www.midlifebachelor.com/test/...fter_login.jpg

Is this possible? If so - how? I've looked at the PDFs provided, and they seem to deal more with cosmetic attributes rather than structure.

Or is this not recommended? Perhaps because it would make upgrading to subsequent versions/patch levels too cumbersome?
