My forum started in Jan. 2007 using phpBB. In Jan. '08 I switched to vBulletin and have been happy ever since. However, going from 3.8 to 4.0 has been like upgrading from XP to Vista :mad:. I.e., 4.0 is in some ways a downgrade. Sorry.

The following are my observations and gripes about 4.0.1 after two weeks of running it and fielding user comments. Maybe some of these are fixable, maybe they'll be addressed in a future patch or update.

1. When you select the Forum Actions dropdown and click on Forum Settings, you get a lot of Parse Errors and Warnings at the top of the screen.
2. "Today's Posts" button is gone. That's a vital function.
3. Quick Reply replaces Reply instead of supplements it, unless I'm missing something.
4. Image attachment is unnecessarily complicated. Things should get easier to do, not harder.
5. Autocomplete for usernames is gone.
6. Is there an easier way to obtain a thread's URL besides clicking Thread Tools/Email page ? (That was an annoyance in 3.X too.)
7. When you go to write a PM, and you are typing in the name of the person the tab no longer comes down offering to fill in usernames from the user list. you who you might be writing to. That was a vital function so you don't have to memorize everyone's quirky username spelling.
8. When you submit a new post, it goes to the top of the page, not to your post. So you have to scroll down if you want to read it.
9. The new smilies are horrible - you can barely tell them apart. I uploaded the old ones to replace them.
10. New smilies displayed in the message box are small, and admin-uploaded smilies that are larger than average are compressed to micro-size and hard to see.
11. The forum look and style immediately made me think of phpBB. If I wanted the look of phpBB, I would have downloaded that for free, not spent a bunch of money on vB. Hopefully there will soon be some good style sheets to apply.
