License ended; need new license and want to upgrade from 3.6.8 to 3.8

The license for our forum ende about a year ago. Now i want to buy a new license and would like to update from our current version 3.6.8 to 3.8.

We want to wait a while version 4.0 because we are not so technical so we rather wait untill the first problems are solved.

Now my question is if it's possible to (re)buy a license and upgrade to 3.8? :confused:

I read someware that it ain't possible but that would be a great problem for us.
