When promoting articles there are sometimes images in them which are hosted on different 3rd party hosting services. This makes the frontpage load slowly and I would think some kind of auto attachment function could work.

This could turn external files into attachment hosted localy instead of using 3rd party hosting providers. Right now when I turn a post into a frontpage article Im manually turns all objects into localy hosted attachments.
