Can't use the message tools!

Whenever I try to make a new post or thread* none of the messaging tools work. I can't click on the any of the buttons such as* bold* italics* underline* font* color* link* smilies etc. I also can't create any new paragraphs. The enter key works but whenever I go to submit the post/thread all the returns that I put in disappear so I get one giant paragraph like this.
