Picture in Blog/Article

If I add a picture to a article or blog system* and post it* and the picture is too wide or too high* the system dont do anything about it* and the website extends wide out.
Some systems resize the pictures automatically so they fitt the blog post or article* and give the oppertunity to click them up in large format.

How does Vbulletin handle this?

When we create articles* we are so newbies in website systems* that we create them by using tables and coloums* so we can get them to "look like as we want".
One of the "setups" looks like this:

How is it possible to do those articles* without colums and tables? Is there an easyer way* to get this setup look and get it to work perfectly?
Because we have that problem* if people see our website though IE 8.0* then the articles dont look good.
