Client-side post autosave (no cookies involved)
 

Here's an idea:

Periodically copy post BBCode to a hidden textarea* and check this on page load* restoring the post if anything is present. Fits in perfectly with session saving systems and back/forward in most cases :)

Also no need for any server-side system or the added http request length amongst other issues from cookies.
