attachment upload error: "file system not writable" (but it is writable)
 

The details of the problem are a bit of a contradiction.

A user on one of my boards encountered this error message when trying to add a small image attachment to a message.

The file was a 29K jpeg file* smaller than the max file size. the file type is supported* and the width and height are within limits.

when looking in Admin CP -> Attachments -> Attachment Storage Type*
the path to the attachments main dir is at /home/seatrio/www/images/attachments. This directory exists.
the permissions on 'attachments' is '0777'
the permissions on 'images' is also 0777

When I try as administrator* I have permissions to do the upload via VB but it fails for me just as it did for my user.

if I FTP in to my hosting home directory using a separate ftp client* then I can upload the same file.

The conclusions I'm reaching are either that VB is mistaken about what the permissions for my attachments directory are* or that the real problem is something else besides what the error message suggests it is. In either case I'm not sure what to do next. Does anybody have any ideas?
