Is my buddy pulling my leg ?
 

A classmate of mine told me that it was possible to get into a website run by Vbulletin and get the IP address of any members in there ! He read in a thread somewhere that one guy posted IP addresses of others to unmask their various nicks in the forum .

I do not know anything under-the-hood in Vbulletin but I would guess security must be one of its fundamental design considerations ! If the story was true then I think one of these cases can explain the whole caper :

1) This low-life IP poster must have known some moderator or admin at the Website to get the IP addresses.

2) He is an A+ hacker and successfully hacked into Vbulletin

3) He might use some Website grabber ( i.e. website downloader) to download the whole website and harvest these IP addresses .
