Backlinks

My forum is 2 weeks old and it is getting there slowly. We have 6 members who are not family or friends* and we average 40 guests each day. Not earth shattering stats but I guess it is a start.

I have installed a SEO mod and on 3 searches rate very highly on google but I would like to be seen on more google searches (as we all do).

I have done a sitemap* and I am on Twitter and Facebook and about to join Linkedin.

I have read quality backlinks are very important for your google ranking* especially if you can get 1 way backlinks. There are lots of companies offering all sorts of ways to get you backlinks. I am nervous about using these as I have read if you are involved with the wrong type of company google will ban you:eek:

So has anybody used any of these link brokers successfully?
If not* how have you gone about getting backlinks?
