Have 3.6.7 on one server* want to buy latest vB and install on new server

Well I have 3.6.7 level 1 installed on one webhost. I want to buy the latest vB and install it on a new webhost (my old one is giving me major issues at the moment).
The problem is I want to keep my users and posts and everything from the existing install and put it into the new one.
I've tried downloading mysql backups and home directory backups so I'll have something if my old webhost pulls the plug on me (could be quite soon* day or so) but I'm not quite sure if it's even possible to import a 3.6.7 backup into a newer version or really how to go about it at all.
What do I need to salvage from the existing setup?

If anyone could help me out with some pointers or ideas I'd be very grateful* I'd hate to loose my existing board setup altogether and force everyone to re-register et.c.
