Clarification On Vbulletin.org Ddos / Hacking Article
 

Could a server tech possibly explain where this would be used* opposed to this article on vb.org (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=220914)* which really could give the impression that all forums are under attack or going to be attacked???

From my experience* having a good host* with a good firewall and config system* and ServerConfig as my best software friend* I have never endured any of this nonsense that I read about hacking and attacking. Spam... sure* but this type of stuff:

Would it be correct to say* this type of thing is more likely to occur on a shared hosting environment where the security is set pretty minimal to accommodate a vast array of users? Not typically an issue I would suspect with VPS / dedicated solutions that sit behind more secure firewall settings and often have decent security standards! Is this a fair assumption?

I understand using such methods may help on shared environments* as you cannot secure your server beyond some basic .htaccess methods* which really is far too late IMO* but its a method I guess. I just do not have these issues running secure servers / VPS solutions. I don't have extra methods at the software beyond captcha.

Any server techs provide a better scope on this?
