Attachments showing links instead of picture

In the 2nd post in this thread* there's 2 attachments* but when you click the thumbnail it's only showing a link on an otherwise blank page* it's not showing the image. I've seen this happen on other forums I run as well.

How can I fix this?

Edit: it turns out a couple attachments (jpgs) larger than the allowed size were attached to his post. (I use a 3rd party uploader which must have passed them on without checking) I've increased the max. size and have asked him to re-upload. Hopefully that was what was causing the problem.
