Show/Hide Clarification

Could you clarify "show/hide"? I would like some forums to be minimized using the built in function to do so but they would still be present. I wasnt sure if this counted as "hidden" as they are still there, parent forum is there, just the subforums are tucked up when you come from one domain or shown if you come from another.
