Big potential client needs a shopping cart: go for Drupal or vBulletin?
 

Hello Jelsoft/IB and current customers,

Although I -as a long time customer- am not particulary pleased about almost all core developers leaving Jelsoft recently, a new bussiness opportunity has come along for me. I have made contact with a big potential client and I showed them my vBulletin powered website. Looking at my site and hearing my recommandations, they are interested in me producing their new website.

Their current site is powered by Drupal, but due to circumstances their current websmaster can not maintain it anymore. So, now I have the option to [1]: learn Drupal and take it from there or [2]: build it from scratch using vBulletin.

I have heard a lot of positive experiences with Drupal and the negative vibe overhere at vbulletin.com recently (the core development team is leaving for a reason) made me look into alternatives to vBulletin. Fact of the matter is that Jelsoft still hasn't released a CMS (pretty unbelievable after requesting it for more then 7(!!!) years). A sophisticated CMS is much more important for this potential client then a sophisticated forum, so you would think we should go for Drupal. One of the key services in their current site is the shopping cart this client provides to it's visitors.

What can you guys and girls advice me to do? Will there be a shopping cart module available from Jelsoft/IB in the coming year, or is there any reliable professional product out there that will integrate with it? Or should I go for Drupal anyway?
