Different Icons for different threads
 

I'm wondering how I can have different icons for different forums on the forum index page.

I've seen several sites where they have different icons next to different forums on their /index.php listing. How can I do this?

vbulletin.com has it on the home page, too, where different forums have a different icon next to them. How can I accomplish a similar idea?
