Change Background colour via CSS, How?

Except I don't know where the CSS is to edit it?

I looked in the styles manager under Main CSS and found the Alt1 under "first alternating colour" but I changed the hex already and it doesn't work so I'm figuring there must be a CSS file that needs editing but I can't find it. Any ideas? Thanks :)
