Forum Editor problems

vB4.20PL3, new installation, went live a week ago, and everything was working great. Suddenly a few days later, a multitude of issues appeared.

No mods are installed, and only one plugin (Tapatalk) is installed. No templates have been modified, only a few small cosmetic tweaks were added into additional.css. Only the Forum product is in use... others have all been disabled since before go-live.

  • Editor box and controls missing for IE & FF. For Chrome and Safari, all editor functionally was fine in both standard and WYSIWYG
  • Avatars, profile pics, and attachments all became nonfunctional (showing as broken links) (at this time, everything was stored as blobs in the db)
  • Attachment upload was broken... after selecting the file to upload and clicking OK, it appeared to work (no errors), but no file appeared in the dialog.

Avatars/profile pics and attachments were moved to filesystem, rebuilt thumbnails, etc. Avatars and profile pics are now fully functional again. Existing attachments used in posts are OK. New attachments still cannot be added.

Current conditions:

  • Avatars and profile pics are now fully functional again. Existing attachments used in posts are OK.
  • Editor box and controls are completely missing for IE & FF. (no change)
  • (this one just started) For Chrome and Safari, no editor controls/buttons are displayed. Carriage returns are is lost after posting and viewing the new post. BB code does work though.

Standard actions/diagnostics taken:
  • Suspect Files runs clean
  • re-uploaded all files
  • switched to the default vB style, cleared cache, etc. - no difference with any browser
  • created new style w/ no parent, cleared cache, etc.- no change with any browser
  • Checked the mobile style setting, set for Default Mobile Style for both old and new mobile browsers (yes, I've been combing though here and reading posts for days! :) )

Interesting finding... using the mobile style w/ desktop browsers, carriage returns are not stripped.
