Forum Upgrading always removes edits??

Being bit of a newbie with all this template editing and so forth, I am curious as to how the more experienced site admins/owners handle a major upgrade when it comes to the edits they have made.

I don't have many on my site because it is a pain in the butt to have to always go back in and do them again after an upgrade.


Many of the templates seem to merge together but others do not. In that case a revert is needed. You do that and any changes you made are forever lost in the cyber recycle bin.

I had minor header and footer changes as well as a couple others related to some plug ins I use.

One other thing, the What's New? tab is back. Why can't that just be left out altogether and if someone wants it, they can turn it on? I took it out and bam, shows up and pushes my navbar all out of wack.

Is there a way to avoid losing your template modifications ?? __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
