Bahrain: the regime keeps more than 1400 citizens behind bars as hostages to put pressure on opposit

The regime in Bahrain is keeping more than 1400 prisoners as hostages using them as a pressurizing tool to terminate the public legitimate demands that have been raised by the people of Bahrain for a year and a half on 14th February, 2011. The regime is still facing the demands with killings, arresting, torturing, raiding houses and excessively using force and violence.
The regime has been arresting citizens on daily basis. There has not been a day passing without arbitrary arrests accompanied with stories of torturing and vast violations against different areas in Bahrain. The regime forces always force detainees to confess and sign their confessions of equivocal and sham cases without even reading them paving the way towards wrongful verdicts against them at the court.
Thousands have been arrested since the 14th February as prisons have been overpopulated with political prisoners of different political backgrounds and different sectors.
Prominent political figures and political leaders were among those who were arrested. Their arrests were mainly related to freedom of expression. Later, the courts have convicted them with arbitrary revengeful verdicts. Many international human rights organizations have called for immediate and unconditioned release of all of prisoners of conscience. But, authorities would not respond to all humanitarian calls; keeping them under arrest to put them away from the revolutionary struggle outside the prison.
The High Commissioner for Human Rights–Navi Pillay- has strongly condemned the verdicts against the prisoners of conscience describing some of them as signs of "political persecution" . The Amnesty International described the verdicts as "travesty of justice".
Human Rights Watch published a report titled " No Justice in Bahrain: unfair trials by the Military and civil courts", at page 94 the violations of the rights of prosecution procedures. One of the trials is the trial of 21 prominent political activists and trying 20 medics.
All these reports have been issued to condemn the revengeful attitudes that control the judiciary and the security system that would make them issue imprisonments against opponents. The judiciary has been used against the people and the opposition exploiting all the states capabilities to repress all those who exercise their right of freedom of expression and anyone who calls for transition to democracy.
Among the prisoners are citizens who have been unfairly sentenced with death sentences in addition to others that have sentenced to life. Many long term sentences have been issued against Shaikh Mohammed Habeeb Al-Moqdad that reached 95 years.

The prisoners stressed that they have been subjected to horrible torture inside detentions due to their political activities or their opinions. 4 citizens died as they were in detentions due to brutal torture.

Among the detainees, there are one hundred children below the legal age. Security services treat them as adults, confronting them with charges which don’t match their young ages and subjecting them to ill-treatment and torture.
Number of women are also under arrest. Like others, they are subjected to ill-treatment, torture and harassments. Currently, four ladies are under arrest because of their political views and activities.
Detentions are being them by pursuing citizens, catching them from streets and during pro-democracy protests which are brutally repressed by the regime forces. Others get arrested from their forcibly raided homes at late dark or early dawn time without neither a legal warrant nor morality and social norms. While the raid, all households are subjected to verbal harassments and regime forces kicks, punches and slaps.
Everything are vandalized inside raided houses, especially things related to households’ religious beliefs.
Frequently, security forces confront political prisoners with criminal charges; in order to revenge and punish them because of their political activity. Most political prisoners are charged of“illegal gathering” in which it considers as a clear evidence how the regime is violating the right of free assembling and expression in Bahrain. The regime aims to ban citizens not to express their views and legitimate demands.
The political prisoners are subjected to ill-treatment and torture; especially during the first stages after the arrest directly. Detainees are forced to admit something they didn’t do. If they refused to forcibly admit sham charges, more torturous meals will be waiting. Different kinds of tortures systematically continue inside investigation rooms and detention centers.
The detainees still suffer the ill-treatment and deprive their basic international human rights. Before few days, three detainees were punished in Jaw Central Prison; which is overpopulated with political prisoners. They got punished because they asked to read the Quran in the holy month of Ramadan. This request was declined by tormentors and any similar requests will face the same punitive acts.
