Al-Wefaq Society's GeneralSecretariat Weekly Meeting
May 30th 2012
http://alwefaq.net/index.php?show=ne...rticle&id=6518

Al-Wefaq's general secretariat has issued the following statement onWednesday 30th May regarding the ongoing pro-democracy struggle inBahrain, and the recent updates in the region and the world:

· We reconfirm our belief in the principle ofdialogue. Any dialogue must be serious, based upon fair foundations and capableof producing a real political solution in which people regain their legitimaterights, within a concrete democratic structure. By this means, Bahrain could befreed from the existing darkness of dictatorship, authoritarianism, corruptionand the theft of public wealth. Now is the time for our homeland to movepeacefully to a real democratic state, where people have the full privileges toform it’s constitutional institutions, freely question an elected governmentand face equal treatment without any form of discrimination.

· Dialogue is a fundamental principle, but there canbe disagreement when the dialogue that is raised is vague. Will it be genuineor just be another way for the government to buy time?

· The regime continues to talk about dialogue fromtime to time but unfortunately none of its efforts to do so were true orserious. They were merely lies and autocratic attempts to move away from thepopular demands of the people.

· We announce our full readiness for a serious, fruitful and meaningful dialogue, based on the Manama Document, principles ofthe Crown Prince, after implementing the UN UPR and BICI recommendations.

· The recently released report of the National AuditCourt clearly proves the financial viability of Al Wefaq. Despite thecircumstances, this undoubtedly indicates that its financial system adheres toprofessional standards and a meticulous scientific base.

· Much information has been reportedly received aboutdistributing the Bahraini nationality in a shameful and humiliating manner. This reveals the mentality of neglect and manipulation for the national loyaltyand the destiny of our beloved homeland.

· We warn of suspicious movements by the authoritiesto change the demographical structure of the state, which horribly violates theprinciple of sincere patriotism.

· We strongly condemn the bloodshed in Hula, Syria.Killing children, women and unarmed people is beyond all humanitarian and moralaspects. Targeting innocent people and their liberties is an approach based oninvalid perspectives.

· The question of sovereignty of independence is notfor discussion. It is completely non-negotiable on any table; it is more than ared line for us. It is illegitimate to sell our homeland. Such issues are anexclusive right of the people of Bahrain and must come through fair democraticmechanisms under the supervision of the UN, as it is clearly mentioned in thefirst clauses of the international covenant.

· Human rights violations and brutal suppressions arehappening on a daily basis in Bahrain. For instance, we highlight the recentincident in Aali area, when security forces, with no humanitarian or moraldeterrent, sought to systematically kill a Bahraini family by firing tear gasdirectly into their home.
