For March “Obeying My Country's Call” Friday May 18th 2012
Bahrain Opposition societies' final communiqué
http://alwefaq.net/index.php?show=ne...rticle&id=6489

Dear brave people of Bahrain,
The opposition societies praise your great and unprecedented response to their call to take to the streets to express your hostility to the authorities foolish policies in managing the ongoing constitutional and political crisis in Bahrain.

Time and time again we have seen the autocratic authorities hide from their human rights and political duties. Despite the calls of countless world leaders, human rights organisations and reports, the authorities continue to break their promise, made to the world, of implementing the BICI recommendations.

We wholly refuse the “escape forward” policy practiced by the Bahraini repressive government, who arrogantly continues more human rights violations against those seeking democracy. Collective punishment, spreading of hate, sectarian discrimination and ethnic cleansing will not open the door for the tyrannical government to override international judicial accountability.

In spite of all international conventions and treaties signed by the illegitimate government in Bahrain, more violations are being carried out on a daily basis on the ground. The current government is unconcerned by the possibility of an apartheid state emerging amongst the community, nor by the collapse of the national economy. Their only concern is that they remain protected by their autocratic allies.

Dear loyal masses,

The repressive government has turned away from the correct path. All it’s security measures are unethical by both human and religious standards and go against international conventions and treaties.

"Bahrain is an Arab Islamic State, independent and fully sovereign and its people are part of the Arab nation. Neither its sovereignty nor any part of its territory shall be relinquished", Article (1-a), Bahrain Constitution 1973.

"The system of government in Bahrain is democratic, under which sovereignty lies with the people, the source of all powers. Sovereignty shall be exercised in the manner specified in this Constitution”, Article (1-d), Bahrain Constitution 1973.

Rule in Bahrain does not adhere to the constitutional articles which emphasize full sovereignty and independence, with the people as the source of all powers.

This autocratic rule no longer recognises that "Justice underlies the system of government. Co-operation and mutual understanding are firm bonds among citizens. Liberty, equality, security, tranquillity, education, social solidarity and equal opportunities for citizens are the pillars of society guaranteed by the State", as stated in Article (4) Bahrain constitution 1973.

This is why campaigns of hate were set up in the official media, inciting one sect against the other, prisons are open for pro-democracy protesters where they can be tortured and even killed. Furthermore, public properties were arrogantly stolen, in a blatant disregard for liberty, equality, security, tranquillity and equal opportunities amongst citizens. In the same context we emphasize that international obligations give all people, including Bahraini’s, the right of self-determination.

Therefore the opposition societies underline the serious need to go back to the principle of “the people are the source of all powers”, in this historical moment that directly affects the sovereignty and independence of the future.

Any discussions on the issue must be governed by a fair national referendum with rightful representation of the people of Bahrain, or the decision is void, ineffective and meaningless.

The regime has crossed all lines and abandoned all religious morals and ethics, but spared no time in dividing the community and accusing the opposition of treason, whilst keeping it’s prominent figures imprisoned.

The regime has employed its state run media to attack the highest religious figure in Bahrain, who is known for his nationalism and patriotism. These systematic media attacks reveal the ugly face of the regime that cannot differentiate between right and wrong, justice and injustice.

Simultaneously, this highest religious figure has been very patient and good tempered in putting the national interests before him. This has irritated the regime to become even angrier as he has refused to be provoked. Such attacks against the Sheikh will only stir up his followers and take the country into a dilemma of action and reaction further than the government’s expectations, opening the door for hardliners and extremists to become emboldened.

Therefore we want the authorities of any attempt to escape this crisis by leading the people of Bahrain into a local and regional sectarian maze. This includes all aggravation by security forces, illegal naturalisation contrary to basic humanitarian norms and importing mercenaries to use in the oppression against Bahrainis.

All these actions are an attempt to eliminate the people’s aspirations and circumvent the right of the people to elect their own government, be represented by a parliament with full powers, voted by elections with fair electoral constituencies. They also maintain security and military institutions that protect the system rather than the people and subjugate the people to suppression and harassment.

The opposition societies also stress on the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners and prisoners of speech, including human rights defenders Abdulhadi Alkhawaja and Nabeel Rajab. Keeping them imprisoned for only expression their political views, confirms that the regime is continuing to attack anyone who speaks against it, undermining their claims of reform.
