A lawyer who visited a Bahraini activist who has been on hunger strike that has started from over a month stated that his well-being is deteriorating.
Abdulhadi AlKhawaja is serving a lifetime sentence in prison for his role in the pro-reform protests last year. He was convicted of several charges including the formation and organisation of terrorist groups. He is one of the founders of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) and one of the 14 leaders who have been sentenced to various terms.

The possibility of force-feeding him
Mohammed Al-Jishi, the lawyer who visited AlKhawaja stated that the activist drinks a litre of water mixed with salt and glucose daily, however, there is a possibility that the prison authority will be involved in force-feeding him, he added that AlKhawaja completely refuses to consume any food, and says that he either achieves his freedom or he dies.

Regaining some of his strength
The lawyer also expressed that AlKhawaja stopped drinking water following a visit from the head of a Bahraini group for human rights, who is believed to be a Journalist, AlKhawaja believes that this human rights group is pro-government, and that they had given a false account of his situation, he also said that he is now drinking fluids again, since Sunday, where he regained some of his strength and is able to talk and walk partially. The group known as ‘principles’ mentioned that AlKhawaja’s hunger strike does not put him at risk of danger.

Jaw Surgery
AlKhawaja’s family stated that he is referred to as number eight amongst the violation cases that had been told by prisoners who were not named in a report issued on November by the Bahrain Independent Commission Inquiry with regards to the unrest.
It was also reported that the detainee had to undergo an operation for his jaw after he was beaten during his arrest and was tortured during his imprisonment. However, the violations resumed eight days later.
The Danish Foreign Minister, Willy Sovndal, told his Bahraini counterpart that AlKhawaja must be released or tried in a civilian court. Members from the Danish Consulate also visited him in prison several times.
During this time, the Bahraini nation have been out protesting and demanding the release of AlKhawaja, for which the main reason for his imprisoned was that he is one of the people demanding democracy and the legitimate rights for the civilians.

AlKhawaja has as long biography and his reputation is of excellence for his contribution in defending for human rights cases, he is a Danish citizen of Bahraini origin, so will the Danish human rights activist defend this brave man, who spent his life as a human rights defender, as the Bahraini people are striving to rescue him from death?
