Bahrain Police to ‘bug’ cars Bahrain Police will start embedding GPS tracking devices in all cars Police in Bahrain will soon be able to track every single vehicle in the Kingdom using GPS tracking systems. The technology is simple – vehicle registration badges will get microchips embedded in them which will allow the car to be tracked. The tracking system will allow Bahraini Police to pin point the location of any vehicle that is fitted with this tracking device. Microchips embedded in the new registration badges will be linked to a new computer system at the General Directorate of Traffic, enabling police to know the exact location of a vehicle at any time. It means officers investigating a crime will immediately know which vehicles are in the vicinity, whether it is a hit-and-run or a burglary. The hi-tech badges are being introduced along with new number plates available from June 20, which are specially designed to prevent the theft and illegal modification of number plates. There are a number of ways to track a car and the GPS unit that is in or attached to the vehicle is common to all types of systems. GPS Tracking Systems Real-time, cellular network – Works by transmitting location and speed data of the vehicle over a GSM cellular network. Real-time, satellite – Vehicle data is transmitted via satellite to the authorities. There could be a monthly charge for this system. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__ |
