UPGRADING...testing...problem!

Good evening everyone.

I'm currently running version 3.6.4 and I'm upgrading to version 4! (I FEEL LIKE I'M at an AA meeing! )

To be able to upgrade, I've had to move my MEGA (and I'm not joking) MEGA large site to a new server...because of the PHP and MySQL requirements.

The OLD SITE (version 3.6.4) has now been moved...and it's taken me almost a fell WEEK to do this move (YES, it's that big).

Now...before I point the DNS to the new server...I would like to do some testing.....

But...here is my problem and question.....

Before I started the move....I CLOSED my site to make sure there would be no changes and everything would switch seemlessly.

So...at this time I have both the OLD server CLOSED and the NEW server CLOSED.

The system will let me test the new server via an IP URL address that sorta (not exactly) looks like this:

http://ip.ip.ip.ip/~NAME~/forum/index.php

But....because the system was turned OFF...when I go to that address...I get the SYSTEM TURNED OFF message!!!!

So...I'm trying to log into the ADMIN CB by going to this address (again just an example)

http://ip.ip.ip.ip/~NAME~/forum/admincp/index.php

At this point I get the ADMIN LOG IN screen...I put in my admin username and password...and NOTHING!!! Back to the admin log in screen again.

WELL...after about 2 or 3 times....I get a DATABASE ERROR message.

SO....forgive me for making this so long.......

WHAT DO I HAVE TO CHANGE...what do I have to do....to get logged in...and to get to where I can test this so as to make sure the move worked....so that I can move the DNS and then start on my upgrade!!??!!????????????

Ya'll have always had the answers for me....and I'm so appreciative of all your advice that you have given me in the past.....THANK YOU SO MUCH for all you have done.........you have a customer for live!!!
