Forum vbSEO, VB4.02 and .htaccess and htaccess.txt

I am running VB 4.02 and VBSEO 3.5
Looking at my files, I seem to have a .htaccess which reads the following:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^diypeople.co.uk$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.diypeople.co.uk$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http\:\/\/www\.mydomain\.co\.uk\/forums\/" [R=301,L]

AND

I HAVE A htaccess.txt file, with the following info in:

Options -MultiViews

RewriteEngine On

RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^product/(.*).html$ products.php?q=$1&rewrite=1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]

RewriteRule ^review/(.*).html$ reviews.php?q=$1&rewrite=1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]

RewriteRule ^merchant/$ merchants.php
RewriteRule ^merchant/(.*)/$ search.php?q=merchant:$1:&rewrite=1&%{QUERY_STRING } [L]

I've checked Google webmaster tool and have seen that the crawl came up with 7, 404 errors.
when I click these errors, i am taken to a page, where no information exist.

These are the urls where the errors have appeared; (please note, i have changed "my domain", thus not to look like im spamming the hell out of VB)

Do I remove one of the htaccess files? - if the answer is yes, how would i rewrite my 301 re-direct?
when i click on one of the links that the 404 came up on, I just go to a blank page?
I actually deleted the two pages with the urls (the other urls listed above have just come from nowhere)

could it be a cache issue? please can you help me with this one. Im concerned this may get worse.
This does not look like a vbseo .htaccess ?
I upgraded to 4.02 around 9 days ago - I didn't have this problem before.

ps. both .htaccess and htaccess.txt are located in the main directory. __DEFINE_LIKE_SHARE__
