I've been a customer since 2003* with an owned license. A few months ago Jelsoft decided to change the renewal fee from $30 to $60. I received no notice of the $40 renewal offer that was only available before June 2nd* and would have been forced to pay $60 (double the price) to renew. That made me seriously think about writing my own forum software and ditching vBulletin. I would think all customers should be "grandfathered in" to the $30 renewal rate* but I would even accept $40. $60 is ridiculous! So I forgot about it* didn't bother to renew at the time as I had no immediate need for updates.
But wait* whats this? VB4? I still can't figure out the pricing stucture* so maybe someone can help me out* but I doubt I'll like it. Because my license expired in April 2009 (owned license)* I would have to pay $195 to renew? How does $30 become $195!? And then I guess if I wait until after October 30th* it would go up even more!? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the exact prices* but unless vBulletin changes their 600% price hike* I'll be moving to my own custom forum software in a few years. It's bad enough the initial cost is expensive* and the $30 is also kind of high considering we have to pay it for the rest of our lives or however long our sites shall exist. I mean really think about it.. how many customers there are* multiplied by the prices.. Jelsoft should have so much money that they can't possibly know what to do with it all!
What does everyone else think? I know a lot of people are outraged but maybe someone can explain this stupidity to where it makes a wee bit of sense.
