Opposition Parties: Preconditioned Dialogue is Unacceptable

The Justice Minister's speech confirms regime's unserious intention of political resolution, and opposition-bashing through sate media contradicts with BICI recommendations.

The opposition in Bahrain is closely watching the aggravating situation created through opposition-bashing by regime officials in state media and press. The opposition is also following the drawback in governmental statements, after the Universal Periodic Review in Geneva, and its latest was the Minister of Justice Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa statement on the conditions for the claimed dialogue, which has not begun yet.

The opposition would like to bring attention to the appalling statements of regime's officials against the it, that show how the regime is losing credibility for failing to fulfill its promises to the Bahraini people and its pledges to the international community to conduct a serious and unconditioned dialogue. "Dialogue " has become a PR term, and is being recklessly exploited to avoid international pressure. The lately held meetings by Minister of Justice with Bahraini societies to reach "agreements" were only to let the UPR pass smoothly, as the minister went back on his "agreements" through unaccepted arbitrary conditions and threats revealing the real ideology of the ruling regime.

The opposition parties stress that imposing any preconditions for dialogue, making it unacceptable for political parties to go beyond what the government called "national consensus" in its statements issued in Arabic, ultimately means imposing government agenda that suit its own satisfactions. This kind of dialogue is nothing but failure from the beginning, like the previous "National Dialogue" which made a huge failure to fulfill the popular demands of Bahraini people and resolve the political crisis, because the regime broke all the international and the national promises to engage an unconditioned dialogue. Here, the opposition is presenting such statements made by regime officials before the international community, as an example of refusal to any open and unconditioned dialogue.

The opposition parties call on the regime to review the BICI report which condemned the state media for inciting hatred and sectarianism in Bahrain and recommended the media should be open for the opposition parties, which hasn't been achieved till the moment of writing this statement. On the contrary the official media, the regime's journalists and its intellectuals continue to incite sectarianism and spread hatred among the Bahrainis. apparently, a committee was announced by the Minister of Justice himself, to follow all Friday sermons and document public insults against different components of the Bahraini community. However, this committee's neutrality is questioned like other officials who are still living in the pre-Arab-Spring era, and are still making ready-made petitions that must be signed or else threats of use of power are imposed.

Such official statements contradicts with the promises made by the Foreign Minister in Geneva. They also show a disrespect to both political and social international covenants. The statements also contradicts with the regime's promises to implement Geneva recommendations by using excessive use of power against citizens and their private properties. The regime is exploiting the whole country to serve a group of people and families that do not represent the majority of the Bahraini people. The result was that two young men were killed by the regime forces right after the acceptance of Geneva recommendations.

The opposition parties stress on their fixed stance for a political solution for the crisis in Bahrain through conducting a genuine dialogue that is truly represented by all active parties of the Bahraini people with the regime. The regime must also present core promises to live up to its promises, taking into consideration its previous promises that were broken.
